ASA in the news

1 February 2012

The ASA has found itself in the news following the publication of some high profile adjudications.

The national print, online and broadcast media were particularly interested in two ASA rulings involving the holiday and travel consumer review website, TripAdvisor and the cosmetic company, L’Oreal respectively.

Guy Parker took part in broadcast interviews about our TripAdvisor ruling with BBC Radio 4 Today Programme, BBC Radio 5 Live Breakfast and BBC Radio 5 Live Victoria Derbyshire programme. He explained why the ASA has adjudicated that TripAdvisor should not have implied that all the reviews that appeared on its website were from real travellers, or were honest, real or trusted.

Our Director of Communications, Lynsay Taffe took part in an interview with BBC Radio 4 Woman’s Hour alongside the MP Jo Swinson to discuss why the L’Oreal ad featuring Rachel Weisz had fallen foul of the rules by using post-production techniques in a way that misrepresented what was achievable using the advertised product.
